ramp door

A ramp door is a door that lets vehicles or equipment roll into a container or trailer. Some fold down as a ramp. In container work, the term can also mean a separate ramp used at the door. Sellers use the term in different ways.

Why it matters

A ramp door helps customers load heavy or wheeled items, such as ATVs, carts or equipment. The term is used loosely. In trailers, it usually means a hinged door that drops to form a ramp. For shipping containers, many sellers offer loading ramps that fit at the door, or a roll-up door for drive-in access. Always ask exactly what is included. A common mistake is to assume a ramp is built for any load. Check the weight rating, the door opening and how the ramp attaches. Check also that the floor can take the wheel loads. Keep people clear of hinge pinch points when ramps move.

roll-up door

Door opening is the width and height of the clear opening when a container's doors are open. It is smaller than the container's inside width and height because of the door frame and header. Carrier specs list door opening separately from inside size.

container modification

A container modification is a change made to a standard shipping container. It covers a single door cut-in up to a full fit-out. Common changes include doors, windows, vents, insulation, electrical work, HVAC, lining, partitions and plumbing. Sellers often group these changes into packages.
