Moving and self-storage
climate controlled storage
Climate-controlled storage is indoor storage built to hold a more even temperature, and sometimes humidity, than an ordinary unit. Facilities describe it with words such as air-conditioned, heated or humidity-controlled, and features differ by site, so a customer should ask what the unit actually offers.
Why it matters
People choose it for items that suffer in heat, cold or damp, such as wood furniture, electronics, photos, documents and art. Public Storage notes that these units are meant to give a more consistent indoor environment, not to match a home thermostat, and it does not guarantee set temperature or humidity ranges. A common mistake is to assume "climate controlled" always means humidity control. Ask for the temperature range and for any humidity control in writing. A standard steel portable storage container is usually not climate controlled, so ask the provider if you need that feature. Some providers offer special units.
